Here's something you might not have known about Isabella Rossellini: "I was always fascinated by the infinite, strange and 'scandalous' ways that insects copulate." This series of very short films (about one minute each)-conceived, written and featuring Rossellini, and co-directed with Jody Shapiro-takes up this fascination with a funny and insightful study of the curious ways various bugs "make love." Created with the ubiquity of mobile screens in mind (cellphones, iPods and the like), a selection of the series will be presented by Hot Docs prior to the opening night presentations, as well as with selected special presentations.

Are these short things the best films at Hot Docs this year? Maybe not, but they're the best thing I've seen yet. Rossellini's droll delivery is perfect and their brevity means these little shorts never become tedious, but instead left me wanting more, more, more. I hope these make their way onto the Web as I'd like to see them all.
